A Glimpse Through the Falling Snow

Price range: ¥12,000 through ¥32,000

A wild fox pauses in the snowfall of Abashiri – Hokkaido, just long enough for our eyes to meet.
In the silent white wilderness, curiosity connected us for a brief moment… before it slipped back into the forest.

The story behind

In the far northern reaches of Japan, where winter paints the land in endless white, wild foxes roam unseen, appearing only when they choose to.
During a heavily snowy day in Abashiri in 2020, I encountered this fox entirely by chance. I was driving along a forest road when a lone figure emerged from the storm, moving calmly against the snowfall.

I stopped the car, stepped into the silence, and for a brief moment the fox turned and looked directly at me, curious, unafraid, almost as if acknowledging my presence.
I lifted my camera and pressed the shutter just once.
And then, as quickly as it appeared, it slipped back into the forest, leaving only the echo of its pawprints in the snow.

This photograph holds that singular, unrepeatable encounter:
a quiet connection between human and wildlife, formed in the middle of a northern winter, beautiful, fragile, and gone in seconds.
